What categories should I exchange links with?

You should begin exchanging links with the sub-categories within your own sub-category. Once you are through those website, move to the other sub-categories within your category. Once you're through with those, exchange links with ALL LinkMetro members. As long as you have created a link directory on your website, that is tightly themed and organized, getting links from unrelated website will NOT hurt you, and will only help your rankings.
