What is mySQL?

by Bogdan Chirilla

(Pronounced "my-ess-cue-el") This is a database which is commonly used with web pages. It can allow viewers to look up specific information from a large quantity of data stored in the database. Example: A website has a "look up a member" text area. The viewer can search by last name, and find a single name or list of names out of all of the names stored in the database. If your hosting account included mySQL, you will be able to create a mySQL database from within your webhosting control panel. It is very easy, but all webhosts differ, so you will need to contact your webhost if you do not know how to set up a database. They will be able to easily guide you through the creation process, which should only take a few minutes.
